CALUGARITELE VRAJITOARE

Regia Marius Th Barna, dupa un scenariu de Doina Rusti
O productie: Paradox Film

Imaginea Sorin Gociu, Muzica Petru Margineanu.

The witch nuns

A feature documentary about tolerance / intolerance, the relationship between the individual and the state, also about magic both in the past and present.
Starting from a real happening which took place in Bucharest, on 15.08.1715, when the reigning Princess Păuna Cantacuzino had a breakdown during the service of St. Mary, being suspected that, with her husband, had betrayed the previous ruler Constantin Brâncoveanu to the Turks. In order to
exonerate her /prove her innocence, not knowing the nature of her crisis: epilepsy, calcium deficiency, etc, under the pretext that she was enchanted/put under a spell, two nuns who had witnessed the breakdown were hung, and another built alive in a monastery basements.
A trip to the past, reflecting the mentalities both of past and present, with many respondents: historians, anthropologists, psychiatrists, common people, etc. A lucid view over the fragility of human beings in relation to the state, but also to the collective mentality which cannot ignore the magic, or the mysticism, etc.
